Life in the Vortex

When I arrived in the Asheville, North Carolina area, I began to hear snippets of stories about “the vortex”. Did a little digging to see what this was about, and really wasn’t sure what to think about it. In the next few months I met several new friends, who seemed to have an experience like mine: moving to the area for a new start, and feeling like this was the place I was meant to be. There is a real energy, a warm, welcoming, and invigorating energy. As this kept happening, I began to wonder….is this related to the vortex?

In creating this series, I was thinking about various and specific people I have met, and the energy charged environment we share. They are painted on cedar shingles, and I used the grain of the wood to guide the shapes of the stripes. I imagine us as in the swirling and positive motion. The bird are all birds I see most days, at my feeders or in the woods and fields
